The oldest shrine (that exists today) in Japan that was built in the late Heian period. Please feel its silent invitation to a world heritage.
Ujikami Shrine was designated as a world heritage by UNESCO as a “cultural property of ancient Kyoto”. Through the little gate reminiscent of Yamadera, the worship house (national heritage of Japan) awaits visitors.
Behind the worship house is the main shrine. The main shrine (national heritage of Japan) is the oldest shrine that was built in the late Heian period and consists of three different sections built Ikkenshazukuri style. In the precincts are auxiliary shrine called Kasuga Jinja and “Kiriharamizu (water)”, which is known as one of the seven greatest waters in Uji.
