Hashihime is a guardian goddess of the Uji bridge. With Seoritsuhime enshrined, Hashihime Jinja is said to have originally been placed on the Uji bridge, later moved to a different location, and was placed on the west end of the Uji bridge until it was washed off by a flood in 1867. Today, Sumiyoshi Jinja, a god of water, is located next to Hashihime Jinja in the precincts. Hashihime Shrine is also known as a historic spot that has a strong connection with “Uji-Jujo” from the Tale of Genji. Many people visit Hashihime Shrine today to cut off their bad relationships.
